Engagement sessions

Engagement sessions are meant to capture the two of you as you actually are. Your wedding day will have its own energy and dynamics, but this is a chance to slow down and document your relationship in a more everyday, honest way.

If you’re not sure where to start with planning your engagement session, here are a few ideas to guide you.

Choosing a location

When it comes to choosing a location, I always recommend starting with somewhere that feels meaningful to you. This could look like walking around your neighborhood, spending time at home with your pet, your favorite beach, grabbing a drink at a bar you love, or going back to a place that’s part of your story, like where you had your first date.

If nothing specific comes to mind, that’s completely okay, too. I’m always happy to help and can suggest locations that fit the vibe you’re drawn to.

What should we wear?

When it comes to outfits, the most important thing is that you feel like yourselves. You don’t need to dress up in a way that feels unfamiliar. The goal is to wear something you feel comfortable and confident in.

I always like to think about how an outfit fits in with the location you choose. For example, if you’ll be surrounded by a lot of greenery, avoiding similar tones can help you stand out more in the photos.

I also recommend choosing pieces that you can move around in easily and that you won’t have to constantly adjust. Feeling comfortable makes it a lot easier to relax in the moment and stay present with each other.

Feeling nervous?

It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous going into your session. For a lot of couples, this is the first time they’re having photos taken together. You don’t need to show up as anything other than yourselves. The goal isn’t to perform, it’s to spend time together.

I’ll give you just enough direction so you’re not left wondering what to do, but never so much that it feels forced or overly posed.

If it helps to have a glass of wine or two beforehand, I’m all for it!
